We Are Blind to Party Colouration, Makinde Counters APC Criticism

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde has declared that competence and capacity, rather than party affiliation, remain the guiding principles of his administration in Oyo State.

The governor made the remarks on Wednesday at the University of Ibadan while responding to criticisms over his administration’s engagement with individuals linked to the opposition All Progressives Congress.

Makinde specifically addressed concerns surrounding the involvement of Bimbo Adekanmbi and Morohunkola Thomas in the state’s political and administrative structure.

According to the governor, his administration places priority on individuals with the competence and ability to contribute meaningfully to the development of Oyo State, irrespective of their political background.

He stressed that governance should be evaluated based on performance and effectiveness rather than political identity.

Reacting to criticisms over his collaboration with figures associated with the APC, Makinde questioned the opposition’s ability to nurture competent leaders internally.

“When Moronkola Thomas was talking, he said, after Seyi Makinde, there should be Bimbo Adekanmbi continuity, blah, blah, blah. But gbogbo won APC background ini won,” he said.

The governor added that political or regional affiliations do not determine eligibility for service under his administration once the individual possesses the required competence and loyalty to the state.

“For us, if you are from Oyo State and you are loyal to Oyo State and you have the capacity, we will tap you to support the development of Oyo State,” he stated.

Makinde further noted that his administration already accommodates capable individuals from different political backgrounds working together for the state’s development.

“For every Thomas, there is Segun Ogunwuyi. For every Adekanmbi, there is Musibau Babatunde. We are blind to party colouration, we are open to capacity that can move Oyo State forward,” he added.

The governor’s comments come amid increasing political discussions ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State, with several names already being speculated as possible successors.
