Makinde’s Presidential Ambition Dead on Arrival, Wike Says

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed the 2027 presidential ambition of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, describing it as “dead on arrival” and insisting that his political alignment with the Allied Peoples’ Movement, Allied Peoples’ Movement, would not succeed.

Wike stated this on Thursday while speaking with journalists during an inspection of ongoing road projects in Gomani-Yangoje, Kwali Area Council, in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

He said Makinde’s reported move to seek the presidency through the APM was part of a political strategy he believes will fail, adding that the governor would not secure the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, Peoples Democratic Party, for such an ambition.

The FCT minister’s comments came shortly after Makinde declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election in Ibadan, Oyo State, following a Memorandum of Understanding signed between a faction of the PDP and the APM.

Wike also disputed claims of a broader opposition realignment involving Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, saying no such alliance had been acknowledged by him and describing the narrative as politically unfounded.

In the same briefing, Wike reacted to remarks linked to Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara regarding his political status, insisting that Fubara had not indicated any crisis or need for sympathy, and maintained his position within the All Progressives Congress, All Progressives Congress.

According to Wike, there was no basis for concern over Fubara’s political standing, adding that the governor had clearly stated his position within the ruling party.
