The leadership of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State has declared that no governorship aspirant contesting in the party’s primary election was disqualified ahead of Thursday’s exercise.
Chairman of the APC Governorship and House of Assembly Primary Elections Committee in the state, Taofik Abdulsalam, made the clarification during a press conference held at the party’s state secretariat on Wednesday.
Abdulsalam, a former Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, said all aspirants who purchased nomination forms were screened and cleared to participate in the primary election.
He dismissed reports suggesting that some aspirants had been disqualified, insisting that the process was transparent and in line with party guidelines.
According to him, the committee was fully prepared to conduct a credible election that would stand the test of time and position the party to reclaim the Agodi Government House in the 2027 governorship election.
He added that only the party’s National Headquarters had the authority to announce the final results of the primary.
The committee chairman spoke alongside other members of the panel as preparations continued for the governorship primary.
A total of 11 aspirants are contesting for the APC governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 general election.
The aspirants include Senator Sharafadeen Alli, Bayo Adelabu, Dr Adewale Kareem, Barrister Akeem Agbaje, Engineer Akeem Alao, Dr Ayobami Lam-Adesina, Prince Asanke Asatola, Mr Ololade Usman, Senator Abdulfatai Buhari, Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin and Engineer Rauf Olaniyan.
