Oyo Abduction: Sowore Threatens Aso Rock Protest
Human rights activist and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, Omoyele Sowore, has threatened to occupy the Presidential Villa if the abducted schoolchildren in Oyo State are not rescued.
Sowore made the threat in a post shared on his X handle on Sunday, calling on President Bola Tinubu and the nation’s security chiefs to act swiftly to secure the release of the victims and other kidnapped Nigerians.
According to him, failure by the Federal Government and security agencies to rescue the abducted children would leave activists and concerned Nigerians with no option but to stage a protest at Aso Rock Villa.
The victims were reportedly abducted on May 15 after gunmen attacked schoolchildren in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
During the attack, no fewer than 45 schoolchildren and teachers were kidnapped, while an assistant head teacher and a commercial motorcyclist were killed by the gunmen.
Sowore described the situation as unacceptable and urged the authorities to intensify efforts to address the growing insecurity across the country.
