Oyo APC Primaries: Adelabu Disputes 500,000 Vote Figure
Former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has rejected claims that over 500,000 votes were recorded in the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship primary election in Oyo State.
Adelabu, who contested the party’s governorship ticket but lost to Senator Sharafadeen Alli, said the total number of registered APC members in the state is far below the figure announced in the primary results.
The former minister made the assertion in a statement issued on Friday by his media aide, Comrade Femi Awogboro.
According to the statement, the total number of registered APC members in Oyo State is 153,640 and not up to 500,000 as allegedly reflected in the election figures.
Adelabu described the reported vote tally credited to Senator Alli as inaccurate and urged party members and supporters to await the official declaration of results.
The former minister had earlier alleged that the governorship primary was manipulated in several wards across the state.
In the latest statement, Adelabu maintained that results being collated from different wards indicated that he enjoyed widespread grassroots support during the exercise.
“Those in charge of the results need to be careful and not to be used by anyone to truncate or alter the results because it is already clear to us from what we are collating from each ward,” the statement read.
Adelabu resigned from his position as Minister of Power to participate in the Oyo APC governorship primary election.
