Oyo Development Remarkable Under Makinde — Fayemi
Former Ekiti State Governor and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Kayode Fayemi, has commended Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, for what he described as visible infrastructural renewal and sustainable development across Oyo State.
Fayemi gave the commendation while speaking at the 2026 Oyo State International Tourism Summit held in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, where he applauded Makinde’s governance style, strategic planning and commitment to long-term development.
According to Fayemi, Makinde’s administration has distinguished itself by focusing not only on physical infrastructure projects but also on building enduring institutions and governance systems capable of sustaining growth beyond political tenures.
“What Governor Seyi Makinde is doing in Oyo State goes beyond constructing roads and executing projects,” Fayemi said. “He is deliberately building systems and institutions that can endure beyond political tenures, and that is the true essence of sustainable development.”
The former Ekiti governor, despite belonging to the opposition APC, said fairness and objectivity required acknowledgment of the progress recorded under Makinde’s administration.
“I belong to a different political party, but governance should be assessed with honesty and objectivity,” he stated. “Anyone who has visited Oyo State in recent years will admit that there has been remarkable improvement in infrastructure, environmental renewal and general urban development.”
Fayemi noted that the developmental transformation was not limited to Ibadan but extended to major towns and communities across the state, including Ogbomoso, Oyo, Iseyin, Saki and Eruwa.
“The changes are visible everywhere,” he added. “From Ibadan to Ogbomoso, Oyo, Iseyin, Saki and Eruwa, there is clear evidence of infrastructural development and a government that is intentionally improving the quality of life of the people.”
He further described Makinde’s long-term vision as a governance model that prioritises continuity, institutional stability and economic growth, stressing that meaningful development can only be achieved through structures that outlive administrations rather than short-term political gains.
Fayemi also stated that investments in infrastructure, tourism and urban renewal under Makinde’s administration have improved Oyo State’s attractiveness to investors and positioned the state as an emerging economic destination in Nigeria.
