Rhodes-Vivour Reaffirms Loyalty to ADC Amid Opposition Realignment

Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, former Labour Party governorship candidate in Lagos State, has reaffirmed his membership of the African Democratic Congress, even as opposition politics continues to experience realignments and defections.

In a statement on Tuesday, Rhodes-Vivour acknowledged the ongoing turbulence within opposition ranks, noting that some political actors had chosen to move to other platforms amid shifting alliances ahead of future elections.

He said the developments reflect a difficult but defining period in Nigerian politics, adding that while he respects those who have opted for new platforms, he would remain in the ADC.

“To those who have made the difficult decision to move on to a new platform, I offer my genuine respect and best wishes,” he said. “These are hard choices made in hard times. We are all fighting for a better Nigeria, even when our roads diverge.”

Rhodes-Vivour stressed that his decision to stay in the ADC is based on conviction and commitment to the platform he helped build, describing it as the vehicle through which he intends to pursue political change.

“I want to make it clear that I am staying in the African Democratic Congress,” he said. “It is the platform we have built, the ground we have fought on, and the vehicle that can take us to victory.”

He traced his political journey through the KOWA Party, the Peoples Democratic Party and later the Labour Party, saying each step was driven by principle rather than personal interest.

“My political journey did not begin in comfort. From KOWA, to PDP, to Labour Party, every step has been guided by conviction,” he said.

He also insisted he has never compromised with the ruling All Progressives Congress in Lagos State, saying he rejected inducements that conflicted with his principles.

Rhodes-Vivour added that efforts to strengthen opposition structures in Lagos have continued since the 2023 elections, with focus on grassroots mobilisation across wards and local government areas.
