Saraki Urges Young Women to Embrace Education, Skills Acquisition for Future Leadership

Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has urged young women to prioritise education, vocational training and skills acquisition, describing them as critical tools for leadership, economic independence and meaningful participation in national development.

Saraki made the call during a Young Women Symposium held in Ilorin and organised by Saraki Young Women in Politics, with participants aged between 18 and 25 attending sessions on mentorship, leadership development, empowerment and political inclusion.

In a statement issued on Saturday by his Press Officer on Local Matters, Abdulganiyu Abdulqadir, the former Senate President challenged the participants to remain committed to personal development and prepare themselves for future leadership responsibilities.

“You are the future leaders of our communities, our state and our country. The decisions you make today about education, skills acquisition and self-development will determine the opportunities available to you tomorrow,” Saraki said.

He stressed that education and vocational training remain among the most effective means of overcoming economic challenges and building productive lives, adding that young women require relevant knowledge and skills to compete successfully in an evolving global environment.

“Education, vocational training and active civic participation are among the strongest tools available to young people in building a successful future and contributing positively to national development,” he stated.

Saraki also commended the participants for their level of political awareness, particularly their commitment to voter registration, noting that active participation in the democratic process is essential for sustainable development.

“I am happy that many of you are not just here by mouth but are already registered voters, ready to play your part in the democratic process,” he said.

Reflecting on his tenure as Governor of Kwara State, Saraki highlighted investments made in education, healthcare, sports, aviation and youth empowerment programmes, which he said were designed to create opportunities for young people.

He maintained that no society could achieve lasting progress without investing in its youth population, especially young women, whom he described as key stakeholders in the development process.

The former Senate President further praised the organisers of the symposium, saying the initiative demonstrated a genuine commitment to empowering young women through practical support and capacity building.

“This programme is timely and impactful because it focuses on giving young women the tools, opportunities and confidence they need to succeed and become future leaders,” he added.

As part of the programme, hundreds of participants received vocational tools and empowerment materials tailored to their trades and areas of interest following a needs assessment conducted by the organisers.

Saraki assured beneficiaries that support for young women would continue beyond the symposium through sustained empowerment and capacity-building initiatives aimed at promoting self-reliance, entrepreneurship and leadership development.
