Tinubu Urges APC Members to Maintain Unity Ahead of Party Primaries

President Bola Tinubu has called on members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, to uphold unity, discipline, and sportsmanship as the party begins its nationwide primary elections ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Tinubu described the primaries as a test of the party’s unity, resilience, and collective strength ahead of the polls.

The President’s appeal comes as the APC prepares to commence its primaries with the House of Representatives election scheduled for Saturday, May 16, while the presidential primary is expected to hold on Saturday, May 23, 2026.

Tinubu commended ongoing efforts by party stakeholders to adopt consensus arrangements where possible, describing the process as a strategy aimed at reducing internal disputes and promoting harmony within the ruling party.

He, however, urged aspirants and delegates to conduct themselves peacefully where consensus could not be achieved, stressing the need to avoid actions capable of undermining party cohesion.

The President advised winners of the primaries against excessive celebrations and encouraged unsuccessful aspirants to accept the outcomes in good faith and continue supporting the party.

According to him, the APC must avoid divisive politics and maintain internal stability ahead of the general elections, warning that political opponents could take advantage of internal disagreements.

Tinubu also directed party leaders, governors, and officials to ensure fairness and provide a level playing field for all aspirants participating in the primaries.

He further appealed for increased inclusion of women and youths in the party’s political process, describing both groups as vital to the country’s democratic future.

The President also urged security agencies, particularly the police, to remain professional and focus on maintaining peace throughout the exercise.

Tinubu reaffirmed the APC’s commitment to progressive politics, consensus-building, and internal democracy as the party prepares for another electoral cycle.

The Federal Government has approved a comprehensive restructuring of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, marking the first major reform of the scheme since its establishment 53 years ago. The approval was granted at the federal executive council meeting held in Abuja on Monday as part of efforts to reposition the NYSC into a skills-focused and productivity-driven institution aligned with the Federal Government’s economic and youth development agenda. NYSC Reform: FG Replaces Khaki Uniform With Adire Fabric

The Federal Government has announced that the traditional khaki uniform of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, will be replaced with Adire fabric as part of ongoing reforms aimed at repositioning the scheme and promoting local production. The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, disclosed this on Thursday during an appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, saying the initiative is designed to strengthen indigenous industries and ensure government spending supports Nigeria’s economy.
