Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday accused Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party led by Tanimu Turaki of fraud and disregard for court rulings in the party’s ongoing leadership crisis.
Wike made the remarks during a media chat with journalists in Abuja, where he rejected claims of an interim leadership arrangement within the party, describing such moves as illegal and misleading.
He stated that only a leadership recognised by the courts can legitimately manage the affairs of the party, warning that any parallel structure would be unlawful.
Wike challenged the faction to demonstrate its legitimacy by operating openly, insisting that leadership cannot be formed outside established legal processes.
He alleged that attempts to establish what he described as an illegal caretaker arrangement were aimed at deceiving party members and the public, despite what he said was clear judicial pronouncement on the issue.
The minister also criticised some political actors, including senior lawyers and party leaders, accusing them of undermining legal and democratic institutions for personal interests.
