Wike Declares Abdulrahman Mohammed Authentic PDP Chairman
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared Abdulrahman Mohammed as the legitimate Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), deepening the party’s ongoing leadership crisis.
Wike made the declaration on Wednesday during a media chat in Abuja, where he also criticised the rival PDP faction led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki.
The PDP has been embroiled in internal divisions since 2023 following the emergence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the party’s presidential candidate, a development that led to the formation of opposing camps within the party.
The crisis has since produced two factions, one aligned with Wike and another supported by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.
At its 2025 convention in Ibadan, the Makinde-aligned faction elected a new National Working Committee led by Tanimu Turaki, SAN, while the Wike-backed group named Abdulrahman Mohammed as national chairman.
Wike insisted that Mohammed remains the rightful holder of the position, stating that “Mohammed holds the position. He is the chairman of the party,” and rejecting the legitimacy of the rival leadership structure.
