Yilwatda clarifies delay in screening Fubara, AbdulRazaq, Nwifuru

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has explained why some state governors were absent from the party’s ongoing screening exercise ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Yilwatda said the governors were excused due to official engagements in their respective states, stressing that the party understands the responsibilities attached to their offices as chief executives.

He spoke with journalists on Saturday after the APC screening exercise held at the Plateau Governors Lodge in Abuja.

The APC chairman specifically mentioned Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru as those who did not appear before the committee.

According to him, the party made allowances for them because of state duties and responsibilities.

“Any governor who has issues to attend to, we understand,” Yilwatda said.

“The Governor of Kwara said he has issues to attend to, so we excused him. The Governor of Rivers State also has issues to attend to, and we excused him.

“We know they are chief executives, they are commanders in their states.

“Anytime you are free, call the screening committee. We will give you a room. You can come at your own will and convenience, and we will screen you,” he added.

Meanwhile, it was gathered that Governor Siminalayi Fubara is expected to appear before the APC screening committee on Sunday at the Plateau State Government Lodge in Abuja.
