2027: ADC will be on the ballot — David Mark

The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress, David Mark has urged party members, supporters and candidates not to be discouraged by the Federal High Court judgment in Abuja which reportedly ordered the deregistration of the ADC and some other political parties.

The position of the party was disclosed in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Kola Ologbondiyan.

Reacting while receiving a delegation of party candidates in Abuja on Monday, Mark described the judgment delivered by Justice Peter Lifu as “an arrow fired at the heart of Nigeria’s democracy,” insisting that the ruling would be overturned by higher courts.

He recalled that the Court of Appeal had earlier granted a stay of proceedings in the matter and adjourned further hearing to October 27, 2027, raising questions over the validity of delivering judgment while the appellate court order remained in effect.

According to him, the decision does not satisfy legal and procedural requirements and cannot stand under judicial review.

“The judgment cannot stand. It will be set aside because it does not pass the test of law and due process. Our democracy must be protected from actions that seek to undermine the constitutional rights of political parties and the choices available to Nigerians,” Mark stated.

He called on ADC candidates and supporters nationwide to remain calm, stay focused and continue working towards the party’s objectives, assuring them that there was no reason for panic.

Mark further expressed confidence that the party would remain part of the 2027 electoral process and that the legal challenge would be resolved through the courts.

“The ADC will be on the ballot in 2027. I assure all our candidates, members and supporters that this temporary setback will be overcome through the judicial process. We remain resolute and confident in the rule of law,” he said.

He reaffirmed the party’s commitment to strengthening democratic institutions and presenting what he described as a credible political alternative to Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general elections.
