2027: Atiku Names Amaechi Running Mate

The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, Atiku Abubakar, has selected former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election.

The development was confirmed on Saturday by the immediate past chairman of the ADC in Rivers State, Leader Sampson, who told Newsmen that Amaechi had accepted the vice presidential nomination.

“Yes,” Sampson said when asked whether the former Rivers State governor had agreed to serve as Atiku's running mate.

Amaechi contested the ADC presidential primary election but lost to Atiku, the former vice president, who emerged as the party's flag bearer.

Before the primary election, Amaechi had publicly stated that he did not purchase the party's presidential nomination form with the intention of later accepting the position of vice president.

Following the conclusion of the primary, Amaechi also rejected the outcome of the exercise, with some aggrieved members of the party alleging that the election was rigged in favour of Atiku.

Despite his earlier reservations over the conduct of the primary, the latest development indicates that the former minister has now agreed to join Atiku on the ADC ticket ahead of the 2027 general election.
