2027: Bala Mohammed Denies Plans to Become Jonathan’s Running Mate

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has dismissed reports linking him to a vice-presidential bid alongside former President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2027 general elections, insisting that his political focus remains on contesting the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat on the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

Mohammed made the clarification amid growing speculation that he was being considered as Jonathan's running mate under a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The rumours gained traction after a PDP faction led by Kabiru Turaki announced Jonathan as its presidential candidate for the 2027 election during a special national convention held in Abuja on Saturday.

Although Jonathan was absent from the convention, his certificate of return was received on his behalf by Fred Agbedi.

Reacting to the reports, the governor urged the public to disregard claims suggesting he was pursuing a different political path, describing such assertions as inaccurate and speculative.

“Thank you for your interest in my political aspirations. However, for the sake of clarity, my focus remains firmly on contesting for the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement, APM,” Mohammed said.

He added, “Any reports suggesting a different political course should be disregarded as speculative and inaccurate.”

The governor's statement comes amid increasing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections and effectively rules out any immediate plans to join a presidential ticket.

Mohammed maintained that his political ambition remains centred on representing Bauchi South in the Senate under the APM platform.
