2027: Kwara APC Backs Danladi for Guber Race

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State, Sunday Fagbemi, has defended the emergence of Yakubu Danladi-Salihu as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election, describing him as competent and well prepared to succeed Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

Speaking on a television programme monitored on Friday, Fagbemi said Danladi-Salihu's experience in public service and leadership positions made him the most suitable candidate to lead the state after AbdulRazaq's tenure.

He stated that the APC governorship candidate emerged through what he described as a transparent, free and fair primary election conducted by the party ahead of the 2027 governorship poll.

“A free and fair primary has been conducted in Kwara State, and a winner has emerged,” Fagbemi said.

The APC chairman highlighted Danladi-Salihu's record as former Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, where he served two consecutive terms, as evidence of his leadership capacity and administrative competence.

According to him, the former Speaker maintained cordial relationships with other arms of government throughout his tenure, ensuring stability and effective governance.

“Speaking of competence, this is someone who served as Speaker of the State House of Assembly for two terms. There has been no rancour. There has been cooperation and synergy with the other arms of government,” he said.

Responding to criticisms surrounding the outcome of the primary, Fagbemi dismissed allegations that the candidate's emergence was part of a purported third-term agenda by Governor AbdulRazaq.

He argued that such claims were unfounded, insisting that Danladi-Salihu was contesting in his own right and not as a proxy for the governor.

The party chairman also rejected suggestions that some stakeholders were being marginalised within the APC, maintaining that the ruling party remained united and continued to attract new members across the state.

According to him, several opposition figures and grassroots leaders have joined the APC since the 2023 elections, strengthening the party's structure ahead of future contests.

Fagbemi further expressed confidence that the APC would retain power in Kwara State in 2027, citing what he described as the achievements of the AbdulRazaq administration in infrastructure development, healthcare delivery, education and security.

He claimed that functional healthcare centres now exist across all 193 wards in the state, while major towns and cities have witnessed significant infrastructural improvements.

The APC chairman said the party would campaign on its record in government and expressed optimism that Kwarans would support Danladi-Salihu at the polls.

He also predicted a decisive victory for the APC in the 2027 governorship election, insisting that the party remained firmly rooted across the state's three senatorial districts.
