ADC Drags Chief Judge, NJC to Court Over Leadership Dispute

The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has filed a suit before a High Court in Abuja involving the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, John Tsoho, over concerns arising from the party’s ongoing leadership dispute.

Also named in the suit is the National Judicial Council, which the party accused of failing to address issues raised regarding the handling of a case challenging the leadership of former Senate President David Mark within the party.

The suit, dated June 4, 2026, was filed by the ADC National Welfare Secretary, Nkemakolam Ukandu, who is seeking to be joined in a case instituted by Nafiu Bala Gombe against the Mark-led leadership of the party.

According to the court filing, Ukandu expressed concerns over the management of the matter and alleged that the actions of Justice Tsoho and Peter Lifu, who was assigned to hear the case, could undermine confidence in the proceedings.

The suit further claimed that the assignment of the case to Justice Lifu had generated concerns among some party members regarding the prospects of a fair hearing.

The legal action represents the latest development in the ADC leadership crisis, which has continued to attract political attention ahead of the 2027 general election.

Meanwhile, the Grassroots Mobilization Network has called for transparency in the handling of the case, alleging that the judiciary was being used to target opposition parties.

However, the allegations remain unproven, and neither the Federal High Court nor the National Judicial Council had publicly responded to the claims as of the time of filing the report.

The group also urged relevant authorities to ensure fairness and transparency in the adjudication of politically sensitive cases in order to maintain public confidence in the judiciary.
