Babachir Lawal Quits ADC, Rejects Atiku’s Candidacy

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, has resigned his membership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing dissatisfaction with the emergence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.

Lawal said he quit the ADC following what he described as a predetermined outcome of the party’s presidential primary, alleging that the results were written to favour Atiku.

He stated that he could not be part of what he described as a “rigging machine” ahead of the 2027 elections, insisting that the process that produced the former vice president as candidate lacked credibility.

The former SGF further declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains a better option compared to Atiku, arguing that his decision was based on principle.

Lawal also accused Atiku of being unfit for the presidency, describing him as incompetent and alleging that he is a tribal and religious bigot who should not be entrusted with national leadership.

He added that his resignation marks a complete withdrawal from the ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
