Fayose Mobilises Against Makinde, Says 'Time Will Tell'

Former Ekiti State Governor, Peter Ayodele Fayose, has declared that he will work against Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, in future political contests, accusing him of betraying trust and dismantling his political structure within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Fayose made the declaration during an interview in which he explained that his opposition to Makinde stemmed from what he described as unfair treatment and actions that weakened his influence within the party. He alleged that the Oyo governor undermined political allies and contributed to the destruction of the PDP's structure in the South-West region.

According to Fayose, politics is founded on mutual respect and fairness, adding that his longstanding contributions to the PDP should not be disregarded. He said his relationship with Makinde deteriorated after what he considered a betrayal of trust and deliberate efforts to weaken his political base.

Drawing an analogy to illustrate his position, Fayose said taking away a politician's political structure is comparable to separating a child from its mother, an act he said would naturally provoke resistance.

"I became a lion against Makinde when he messed up," Fayose said, stressing that he would mobilise politically against the Oyo governor in future elections.

The former governor maintained that while Makinde has the constitutional right to pursue higher political ambitions, including a possible presidential bid, such aspirations should not come at the expense of political associates and established relationships within the party.

Fayose also recalled that he was politically active and successful long before Makinde emerged on the political scene, noting that he had business and political interests in Ibadan decades ago.

He further claimed that several individuals and groups dissatisfied with Makinde's leadership would eventually unite against him politically. According to Fayose, accumulating too many political opponents could become a liability for any politician.

Despite his criticisms, Fayose denied being engaged in a personal battle with the Oyo governor.

"I have no war with him. Time will tell," he said, expressing confidence that future political developments would justify his position.

He also cautioned politicians against equating large crowds and public applause with electoral success, arguing that popularity does not always translate into votes at the polls.

Fayose concluded by reiterating his belief that future political events would reveal the consequences of what he described as Makinde's betrayal of trust within the PDP.
