Oyo 2027: APC, Accord, ADC Members Defect to APM

The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has strengthened its political base in Oyo State following the defection of members of the Accord Party, African Democratic Congress (ADC) and All Progressives Congress (APC) to the party in Oluyole Local Government Area ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The defectors were formally received at a political rally held in the Olomi area of Ibadan by the APM governorship candidate, Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi, and the party's House of Representatives candidate for Oluyole Federal Constituency, Engr. Akeem Olatunji.

The event drew party leaders, traditional rulers, religious leaders, market stakeholders, women groups and supporters from across the local government, with the new members arriving in large numbers wearing branded APM shirts.

The defectors pledged their loyalty to the party and expressed confidence in its ability to provide purposeful leadership and responsive governance in Oyo State.

Speaking at the rally, Adekanmbi described the defections from rival political parties as a reflection of growing public confidence in the APM ahead of the 2027 elections. He said the development also demonstrated the electorate's desire for the continuation of what he described as the achievements of Governor Seyi Makinde's administration.

He commended Olatunji for his grassroots appeal and assured the new members of equal opportunities within the party. He urged them to remain committed to grassroots mobilisation and the party's vision of delivering quality representation and good governance.

Adekanmbi also pledged to consolidate what he described as the socioeconomic transformation recorded across Oyo State.

Chairman of the Central Campaign Council for Oluyole Federal Constituency, Hon. Abdulmojeed Mogbonjubola, welcomed the defectors and called on them to strengthen the party's structures across the state.

Mogbonjubola, who also serves as the Commissioner for Public Works and Transport, said the increasing number of political stakeholders joining the APM reflected growing public confidence in the party's leadership under Governor Makinde. He expressed optimism that the party would secure victory for all its candidates in the 2027 general elections.

Olatunji described the influx of new members as a significant boost to the APM's grassroots network in Oluyole Local Government Area. He assured the defectors that they would not regret joining the party and pledged to work with them to expand the party's influence across the constituency.

Among those present were the Deputy Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Alhaji Wasiu Adeleke; the PDP State Secretary, Hon. Oyelami Joel; the APM candidate for Oyo Central Senatorial District, Hon. Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo; and the party's House of Assembly candidate for Oluyole State Constituency, Hon. Waheed Akintayo.

Others in attendance included former Council Chairman, Hon. Popoola Olaide Settle; Vice Chairman of Oluyole Local Government, Hon. Niyi Akorede; Senior Special Assistant to Governor Makinde on Oluyole Federal Constituency Matters, Hon. Olumide Akinlade; and the Chairman of APM in Oluyole Local Government, Alhaji Nasiru Hamzat.

Traditional rulers led by the Baale of Oleyo, Chief Kabiru Olajide; market leaders headed by the Oluyole Babaloja-General, Chief Mukaila Olalere; and the Chief Imam of Oluyole, Alhaji Taliat Abdul Azeez, who offered prayers for peace, unity and political stability, also attended the event.

The defectors were led by prominent political figures, including Hon. Wahab Kazeem, who led members of the Accord Party into the APM, and Hon. Lukman Arowolo, who coordinated the defection of ADC members to the party.
