We Took Oath While Forming ADC Coalition — Dalung

Former Minister of Youths and Sports, Solomon Dalung, has revealed that founding members of the coalition within the African Democratic Congress took an oath to prioritise Nigeria's interests above personal ambitions.

Dalung made the disclosure while speaking on the Mic On Podcast hosted by Seun Okinbaloye, where he expressed disappointment that many members had allegedly abandoned the commitment.

According to the former minister, who served under the administration of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, the coalition was founded on a shared pledge that it would serve the country's interests rather than individual political aspirations.

He, however, lamented that personal ambition had since taken precedence over the coalition's original objectives, creating internal controversies and weakening its unity.

“When we went into the coalition on day one, we all took an oath that it was not going to be about any individual but the country, and I’m keeping to that oath,” Dalung said.

He noted that disagreements and controversies were inevitable in politics but argued that the current challenges stem from members failing to honour their initial commitment.

“My disappointment is that most of those who took the oath on day one in the coalition have broken it,” he stated.

Dalung explained that the oath required members to remain loyal to the coalition rather than pursue personal interests, adding that the shift toward individual ambitions had destabilised the alliance.

“The oath was to stick with the coalition and not individual interest, so what has now destabilised the coalition is personal ambition taking pre-eminence over our early commitment,” he said.

Despite the internal disagreements, the former minister maintained that the coalition had not collapsed, although he acknowledged that it no longer possessed the same level of strength and cohesion it had at its inception.

“The coalition as it is now is not dead but not as formidable as it was,” Dalung added.
