2027: Kwara PDP Names Running Mate

The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has unveiled Reverend Cornelius Fawenu as the running mate to its governorship candidate, Bolakale Kawu, ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The announcement was made in a statement issued on Wednesday in Ilorin by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Adewara.

According to the statement, Fawenu emerged after extensive consultations involving party leaders and stakeholders across Kwara North, Kwara Central and Kwara South senatorial districts.

Adewara disclosed that Kawu formally communicated his choice of Fawenu as deputy governorship candidate in a letter addressed to the state chairman of the party following broad consultations with party stakeholders.

In the letter, Kawu described Fawenu as a leader whose emergence reflects the party’s commitment to competence, inclusiveness and people-centred governance.

“Rev. Fawenu is a man of proven integrity, humility, compassion and exceptional leadership whose emergence reflects the party’s commitment to presenting a competent, inclusive and people-oriented ticket capable of restoring purposeful governance to Kwara State,” he stated.

The party said Fawenu, an indigene of Babaloma in Ifelodun Local Government Area and the current Kwara South Senatorial Chairman of the PDP, will join Kawu, the Daniyan of Ilorin, on the governorship ticket.

According to the party, the selection process was thorough and involved consultations and deliberations with critical stakeholders across the state’s three senatorial districts.

The PDP stated that the Kawu-Fawenu ticket combines experience, innovation, grassroots connection and balanced representation aimed at strengthening the party’s chances in the election.

The party added that the 53-year-old cleric emerged from a shortlist of four prominent personalities considered for the deputy governorship position based on leadership credentials, loyalty, service and contributions to community development and peaceful coexistence.

A graduate of Biochemistry from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Fawenu currently serves as Presiding Pastor of Oasis of Wisdom Bible Church, Ilorin, and previously served as Secretary of the Christian Association of Nigeria.

The party noted that he has spent more than two decades in ministry promoting interfaith engagement, peaceful coexistence and community development initiatives.

The PDP expressed confidence that the governorship ticket possesses the competence, integrity and leadership required to govern the state and called on party members and residents to support its campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Federal Government has approved a comprehensive restructuring of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, marking the first major reform of the scheme since its establishment 53 years ago. NYSC Reform: FG Replaces Khaki Uniform With Adire Fabric

The Federal Government has announced that the traditional khaki uniform of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, will be replaced with Adire fabric as part of ongoing reforms aimed at repositioning the scheme and promoting local production.
