Oyo Govt Confirms Release of Abducted Oriire Pupils, Teachers

The Oyo State Government has confirmed the release of the pupils and teachers abducted from Oriire Local Government Area, describing their freedom as a victory for resilience and principled leadership.

The announcement was made in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, who expressed gratitude that the victims had regained their freedom after spending several weeks in captivity.

According to the statement, the successful release marked a significant milestone in the state's efforts to combat kidnapping and other forms of criminality.

“We are happy to report to our people in Oyo State that our children and teachers at Oriire have been released from captivity,” Oyelade stated.

The commissioner said the state government remained resolute in its decision not to pay ransom despite pressure to adopt what he described as a quick solution to secure the victims' freedom.

He noted that Governor Seyi Makinde's administration believed that yielding to ransom demands would only embolden criminal groups and encourage further kidnappings.

Oyelade said the government's response reflected its commitment to addressing insecurity through sustainable measures while working closely with security agencies to tackle kidnapping and related crimes.

He reaffirmed the administration's resolve to protect the lives and property of residents and sustain efforts aimed at eliminating criminal activities across Oyo State.
