2027: Six Oyo APC Guber Aspirants Reject Alli's Emergence
Six of the 11 aspirants who contested the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship primary election in Oyo State have rejected the emergence of Senator Sharafadeen Alli as the party's governorship candidate, insisting that the process did not comply with the provisions of the Electoral Act.
The aggrieved aspirants made their position known after a meeting with a reconciliation committee set up by the party to address grievances arising from the primary election. The committee was chaired by Senator Olufemi Lanlehin and Professor Taoheed Adedoja.
Those who rejected Alli's emergence are Engineer Hakeem Alao, Engineer Rauf Olaniyan, Dr Ayobami Lam-Adesina, Barrister Akeem Agbaje, Mr Ololade Bakare and Prince Musibau Asanke.
The APC had earlier announced Senator Alli as its governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Oyo State.
However, the six aspirants argued that the party failed to follow due process in selecting its candidate and maintained that the APC currently has no valid governorship candidate because it has not fulfilled the requirements of the Electoral Act.
Speaking on behalf of the aggrieved aspirants, Engineer Hakeem Alao said they had formally presented their grievances to the reconciliation committee for consideration.
"We have intimated the committee of our grievances and we made our position known. There is no candidate for now because we have not fulfilled the provisions of the electoral law," Alao said.
He expressed confidence that the party would eventually resolve the dispute and produce a candidate acceptable to all stakeholders.
"We have made our position known to the committee and the committee is going to deliberate on it extensively. It is still a family. We are going to have a candidate at the end of the day.
"Whoever is picked at the end of the day, we are going to work with the person but as at now, we have no governorship candidate in APC."
The 11 aspirants who participated in the APC governorship primary are Chief Adebayo Adelabu, Dr Adewale Kareem, Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, Barrister Akeem Agbaje, Engineer Hakeem Alao, Engineer Rauf Olaniyan, Dr Ayobami Lam-Adesina, Prince Musibau Asanke, Senator Abdulfatai Buhari, Mr Ololade Bakare and Senator Sharafadeen Alli.
